How your kundli is calculated
- Your local birth time is converted to Universal Time and a Julian Day number.
- Positions of the Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn and the lunar node (Rahu; Ketu is opposite) are computed with standard astronomical formulas.
- The Lahiri ayanamsa (about 24° in 2026) is subtracted to get sidereal (Vedic) positions.
- The Lagna is the zodiac sign rising on the eastern horizon at your birthplace; houses are counted sign by sign from the Lagna (whole-sign houses).
How to read the North Indian chart
The top-centre diamond is always the 1st house (Lagna). Houses then run anti-clockwise. The small number in each house is the sign number (1 = Aries/Mesh … 12 = Pisces/Meen), and the short labels show planets: Su Sun, Mo Moon, Ma Mars, Me Mercury, Ju Jupiter, Ve Venus, Sa Saturn, Ra Rahu, Ke Ketu.

Why is the time of birth important?
The Lagna changes roughly every 2 hours and houses depend on it. A wrong birth time can change the Lagna and house placements, while the Moon sign usually stays the same.
Which ayanamsa does this kundli use?
Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) ayanamsa, the standard used by the Indian government's Rashtriya Panchang and most Indian astrologers.
What is the difference between Lagna and Rashi?
Lagna is the sign rising in the east at birth. Rashi is the sign the Moon was in. Both are used in Vedic astrology.
Is this kundli accurate?
Planet positions are calculated to within a fraction of a degree. If a planet or the Lagna is very close to a sign boundary, other software may place it in the neighbouring sign.
