Frequently asked questions

How is RD interest calculated?

Each monthly instalment earns interest compounded quarterly for the time it stays deposited. The calculator adds up the value of all instalments at maturity.

What is the post office RD interest rate?

The 5-year post office RD rate is 6.7% for the July–September 2026 quarter.

Is RD better than SIP?

RD gives a fixed, guaranteed return. SIP in mutual funds can give higher returns over the long term but carries market risk.

Is RD interest taxable?

Yes. RD interest is taxed at your income-tax slab, and TDS may apply.

What if I miss an RD instalment?

Banks and post offices usually charge a small penalty for a missed instalment, and several missed instalments can close the account.
